NB: There is signboard to Katse Dam and Thaba Tseka at Mapholaneng, past Mokhotlong. This is 4x4 only. This road was built more than 10 years ago and has deteriorated to an extreme 4x4 route only.Sani Pass to Katse Dam via Thaba Tseka

4 x 4 Section - Molumong to Linakeng

The road between Molumong and the Linakaneng River Bridge is in terrible condition at the moment and should only be attempted with a 4x4 or a high clearance vehicle with diff lock. If you are in doubt about your 4x4 skills rather take the tar road route via Letseng Mine and Buthe Buthe explained above. After really heavy rains the low-level bridge on the Linakeng River can also flood and there will be no access through - see map and video below.

Try find a taxi driver near Mokotlong and ask them, they are the MOST reliable for info.

Once you have crossed the low level bridge on the Linakeng River the road is good until Thaba Tseka. From Thaba Tseka there is a gravel road to Katse which will also require a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle.

Option 3: Sani Pass to Katse Dam via Kao Mine and Ha Lejone - 4x4 and High Clearance Only - 6-8 hrs.

Drive from Sani Pass past Mokhotlong to Letseng Diamond Mine. Just after the mine look out for a road on your left hand side that will take you to Kao Mine. This road should only be attempted in dry weather as snowy and wet weather conditions make this road dangerous. There is also a low level bridge near Ha Lejone, which can flood in heavy rains and will deny access.

Option 4: Sani Pass to Katse Dam via Mapholaneng - 4x4 Only
